Many have heard the quote about a man walking along the beach and picking up starfish that had washed onto the beach and would surely die from lack of oxygen. He began throwing them one by one back into the ocean. An observer commented about his actions and that he couldn’t possibly get to all of them and that he couldn’t possibly make a difference. The man bent down and picked up yet another starfish and threw it back into the ocean. With a smile he replied, “I just made a difference to that one!”

North Star Youth Partnership is dedicated to guiding the youth of Northern Arizona to be healthy, self-assured, positive and engaged in their communities.

Every week there are accounts of how this is happening. While our programs will not solve the myriad of issues affecting today’s youth, we continue to educate one day and one youth at a time. 

In such turbulent times as these, when we may feel alone and small and unable to make any lasting changes we may find ourselves asking "What can I do that will make a difference?" or "What can one small person like me do?"  In reality we just need to stop and reflect. We need to realize that making small changes in the world, even for one person, will eventually add up to something bigger in the life of another.

When we become throwers of the starfish, we too, have the power to change the world.
