Priceless Prom 2010 In these challenging economic times, families are more than feeling their share of uncertainty. When simply trying to make ends meet, it’s nearly impossible to provide for recreational and fun activities for their teens. However, thanks to the generosity of the quad-city communities, North Star Youth Partnership, a program of Catholic Charities, AmeriCorps VISTA and Youth Count were able to coordinate the Priceless Prom Project. This event was created to provide free prom attire and accessories to youth who cannot afford them, but would still like to attend Prom and participate in the social engagement. Over 220 dresses were collected, along with men’s attire, accessories and gift cards. A total of $537 was raised in monetary donations to support the event and $5,292 worth of in-kind donations was generated from December to February. Three events were held in the Quad-City area. From the three events, 82 students from 8 different schools attended to receive attire and 26 volunteers, including 12 students and 7 baby boomers, donated over 27 hours of community service to help make the Priceless Prom project a success! Although the event is over for this year, if you are interested in helping us next year or would like to donate items, please call Diane DeLong, North Star director, at 928-708-7214. |
Our sincere thanks to the following for their generous support:
